Bodnant Welsh Food

Furnace Farm is a wonderful range of stone farm buildings dating from the 18th century, in a spectacular setting on the River Conwy with the Carneddau mountains of Snowdonia beyond.  It is just off the A470 from Llandudno to Betws y Coed and close to the A55.

We have given new life to the buildings as a Centre for Welsh food, focussing on using local food - which will be good for you, good for local producers in Wales and good for the environment.

These are some of the things that the Bodnant Welsh Food Centre have to offer:

Farm Shop

Furnace Farm showcases the best artisan food that Wales has to offer. Nearly three quarters of the products are Welsh, half from North Wales alone - including, of course, food produced on the Bodnant Estate, such as lamb, milk, cheese and honey.

Meat on the butchery counter is all locally sourced.  You'll find Welsh Mountain lamb from the estate or, in season, salt marsh lamb from Porthmadog.  The Welsh Black beef, from the Conwy valley, is dry-aged for at least 21 days, and in season they stock local venison and game.

Dairy products include their own butter, yoghurt, ice-cream and milk - unhomogenised and with cream on the top, the way it was when you were small.  When it comes to cheese they sell their own, Aberwen, a crumbly Cheshire style cheese, plus the best that Wales and the rest of the world has to offer.

Look out too for for speciality breads crafted by the on-site baker, honey from the estate and the Conwy valley, and a mouth-watering range of preserves and condiments.

Cookery School & Furnace Farmhouse

The cookery school offers you the chance to learn hands-on cooking skills from some of the country's top artisan crafts people and chefs.  Whether you're a keen amateur cook, a complete beginner, or an enthusiastic foodie, the state-of-the-art cookery school has a course to inspire you and to match your particular interests.

Students and visitors are able to book accommodation in one of the wonderful rooms at the original Furnace Farmhouse, why not turn it into a mini-break? The five en-suite rooms have been crafted out of the ancient stone buildings of Furnace Farm and are the perfect place to unwind after a day of cooking, eating or shopping.

Production on site

The on-site bakers, have a wealth of Welsh baking experience.  They have dreamed up some fantastic speciality breads to sell at Furnace Farm, ranging from yeast breads to sourdoughs, soda and bakestone breads, all crafted with the care and attention to detail of a true artisan.

With our lush grass, it's not surprising the dairy produce some exceedingly fine dairy products from milk to yoghurts, creams, butters, cheeses and ice creams.  To make them they use many of the same traditional methods as were used on the farm in centuries past.

The butchery offers plenty of delicious wild and free-range farmed meats.  All the animals for the meat are reared on the estate or nearby, slaughtered locally, and grown slowly, as nature intended.  For maximum flavour and quality we also believe in taking out time when it comes to curing and ageing our meats.

Restaurant and tea-rooms

Tucked up in the beautifully converted hayloft, the relaxed restaurant combines dreamy mountain views with superb but unpretentious food.  As you'd expect, dishes draw heavily on the fantastic Welsh larder, including much from the Estate.  If you wish to book, please call the Hayloft Restaurant: 01492 651102.

Depending on the weather, you can sit inside or outside in the Furnace tea room set in the heart of Furnace Farm.  At lunchtime they offer open sandwiches using artisan breads from the bakery, freshly made seasonal soups, and quiches, terrines and speciality salads made every day in the kitchens at Furnace Farm.
