Beaches to Enjoy in North Wales

The weather has been wonderful so far this summer, with a mini-heatwave making a stay in North Wales even better!

The weather has been wonderful so far this summer, with a mini-heatwave making a stay in North Wales even better! When the weather is sunny, head to the coast for a welcome sea breeze. But where are the best beaches within easy distance of our holiday cottages?

Colwyn Bay

Great for – safe, sandy beaches even when the tide is in

The beach in Colwyn Bay has undergone a makeover in the last few years including the dismantling of the old pier to create a smaller version. There are also fantastic cafes all along the seafront. However, the moving of tonnes of sand from the sea back to the beach has created a fantastic sandy beach around the pier area. Better still, there is a small expanse of sand to enjoy even when the tide is in.

Llandudno, North Shore

Great for – kid friendly paddling pool

LLandudno bay is a sweeping curve between the Little Orme and the Great Orme. The beach itself is a pebble-strewn one but the paddling pool is a must if you have young children. Paddling pools across Conwy have recently been refurbished and so the Llandudno pool is a must visit. Completely free, there is plenty of shade in the shelters around the pool as well as an onsite cafe for ice cream.

Barmouth Beach

A little further afield, Barmouth is a delightful town with plenty to see and do. However, head out of the busy town and leave the crowds behind to enjoy the miles and miles of sandy beaches. With such a large area, the local council has tried to make it a beach for everyone with craft-free areas for sea swimming, as well as flagged areas for boats and jet skis. There is ample car parking. This is a great day out but like most other popular beaches in North Wales, there are restrictions on dogs.

Aberdaron Beach

Another great day out is to enjoy the sandy beach of Aberdaron. There is parking here but the small village can get very busy in summer. Having said that, this village is an absolute delight with both a pub and cafes, as well as some craft shops that welcome summer visitors. The beach is wonderful and sandy with a safe, shallow water for paddling or swimming (but always follow sea safety swimming guidelines!).

Newborough Beach

Anglesey has a stunning coastline with a pick of beaches with many within a half hour car journey from one of our cottages. Newborough beach is a vast, windswept beach that on a clear, sunny summer’s day is wonderful for a day by the beach. There are sand dunes to explore as well as Newborough forest with plenty of tracks to enjoy too. There is parking here but few facilities so come prepared for the day

Be Sea Safe

A safe day at the beach is the stuff of memories so always make sure that you follow basic safety rules for a fun filled day by the sea
